ISIS, the mobile payment joint-venture backed by three of the nations largest carriers is now officially live nationwide. After numerous delays and a testing phase in just two markets, the mobile payment system is live for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon customers.

The ISIS rollout begin with gas stations, pharmacies, grocery stores etc., and the company has provided a handy map to help locate retailers accepting ISIS. As I looked up my own local zip code, I’ve found a nearby CVS, Chevron, BP, BJ’s, Office Depot, Petco, T-Mobile and many more. Needless to say, the system is used at thousands of payment terminals and utilizes both American Express and Chase Bank services.

There’s a lengthy list of NFC-enabled devices available on ISIS’ website showing which devices on any of the three carriers can be used in conjunction with the service. Customers must have a special ISIS SIM available at AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon retail stores to use with their device.

With Google wallet only available using a Nexus device or Sprint, there’s a clear line for ISIS to begin rapid growth with the right marketing. If the carriers are truly on board with ISIS and provide the proper marketing support, it has definite potential for growth. The biggest hinderance will unfortunately be the carriers who have a tendency to jump on board a project and abandon it in favor of the next “big thing.” ISIS needs the proper marketing and if the carriers can stand behind it, mobile payments may have a real shot about being a big part of our purchasing future.

The ISIS website has a pretty good set of videos that can show off the basics of the service and you can view the map to locate nearby businesses that accept the service.
