HP announces four new Android-powered tablets coming in November

HP is officially announcing four new Android tablets today that will join its low-cost Slate 7 and fill out the company’s Android lineup with tablets in several categories. Most of the new tablets will launch this November, although HP isn’t releasing specific availability and pricing for most models.

The new tablets include the 8-inch Slate 8 Pro, the Slate 7 HD and Slate 10 HD, and finally the Slate 7 Extreme. Although the new lineup includes two 7-inch models, HP is hinting that the new tablets won’t be outright replacing its current Slate 7.

The Slate Pro 8 is the higher-end offering of the new HP tablets and has specs that puts it on par with iPad mini, Nexus 7 and other similar tablets in the 7 to 8-inch category. Specs include a Tegra 4 processor, 8MP camera on the back, 2MP camera on the front, and a 7.98-inch display with a resolution of 1,600 x 1,200 and 4:3 aspect ratio. It also has a microSD slot, micro-USB, and micro-HDMI.

The Slate 7 HD and Slate 10 HD are almost the same apart from a 7-inch display vs a 10-inch display. Both will sport a dual-core CPU, 1,280 x 800 IPS displays, LTE connectivity on at least one model, and Beats Audio. It will also apparently offer nine hour battery life, though not many other details are available.

Lastly, the Slate 7 Extreme is another 7-inch model coming from HP in November that will sport a Tegra 4 processor like the Pro 8. It will also be the only model of the new tablets that will come with a stylus, although Engadget points out that the “1,280 x 800 screen doesn’t have an active digitizer, so you won’t be getting any sort of pressure-sensitive pen input here.
