Analyst: Samsung’s Galaxy S III bests Apple’s iPhone 4S sales for the first time since it was released a year ago

The iPhone 4S is no longer king.

For the first time since it launched in October 2011, according to BusinessInsider, Apple’s Siri-equipped smartphone did not outsell its competition in the United States for August. Canaccord Genuity’s Michael Walkley apparently conducted “channel checks” and discovered the three-month-old Samsung Galaxy S III outsold the iPhone 4S.

The Android-powered device reigned supreme on all carriers except for AT&T during the summer month, and it still managed to grab the lead. The next-generation iPhone will unveil in less than two weeks, however, so it is typical to see a slump in sales in the weeks leading up to a planned launch event.

Now let’s see if these numbers remain true for October.
