LG confirms ‘FullVision’ 5.7-inch display for LG G6, offers a peek at new LG UX 6.0

As ‘release season’ approaches, I’m finding myself extremely excited for one phone in particular, the LG G6. Even though last year’s LG G5 didn’t win over most people, I found myself in love with the company’s later attempt, the LG V20. Now, as the LG G6 approaches with a lack of bezels, the addition of waterproofing, and more, I can’t wait to check out this phone. Now, LG is confirming more details about the phone, only stoking the fire…

Last year, LG announced details on a new 18:9 QHD display which was “destined for LG’s next flagship” which many speculated would be the LG G6. Well, that’s now confirmed, as LG states that its 5.7-inch “FullVision” display will come with the G6. The company states that the “expanded top and bottom allows users to view more information when surfing the web, or while reading e-books and provides a more immersive experience when users view videos or play games.”

Further, LG expects this new display to usher in a new trend of smartphones with this aspect ratio, especially since most films now use the same ratio.

The LG G6 is expected to kick off an era of premium smartphones with 18:9 screen aspect ratios, which is why such a wide variety of films, apps and games tailored to the 18:9 aspect ratio is sharply rising. The smartphone includes a feature that allows users to view existing 16:9 ratio content easily in 18:9 format.

Along with that, LG has offered up a quick teaser showing us what to expect from the LG G6 in terms of software. The company’s camera app will get an upgrade thanks to the extra screen real estate provided by the 18:9 aspect ratio, which also allows LG to introduce a new “Square” mode which lets users take and immediately preview shots destined for social media. The camera app will also include a “Food mode” for taking shots of, well, food, as well as the ability to create GIFs from a series of photos.

LG has been doing fairly well with software since Nougat, and with the G6 debuting with that same base version, we’re hoping for something even better. Based on a very brief teaser the company has released for LG UX 6.0, things are looking pretty solid, and dare I say a little cleaner as well.
