Google reveals that G Suite for Education now has over 70 million active users

In a blog post today, Google announced that its G Suite for Education has reached 70 million users worldwide. Previously known as Google Apps for Education, this initiative had 60 million users last year and 50 million in 2015, making for impressive growth over recent years.

G Suite for Education consists of all of the core Google tools, but includes Classroom to set itself apart from other G Suite packages as the education-focused offering from the Mountain View company.

Noted by TechCrunch, Google’s senior director of product management for Chrome for Business and Education, Rajen Sheth, also announced today that over 20 million Chromebooks are used every week in schools around the world.

Today both Chromebooks and Classroom are used by more than 20 million teachers and students, and we’re excited to announce that more than 70 million people actively use G Suite for Education.

It’s been a big week for Google’s Chromebook efforts. The company announced earlier this week that all Chromebooks launched from this point forward will support Android apps out of the box. Additionally, Adobe announced a family of Creative Cloud Android apps optimized for Chrome OS earlier toady.

The 70 million milestone was announced in the same post as a series of new Chromebooks earlier this afternoon. You can read our full roundup of those announcements here.
