The affordable and impressive ZTE ZMax Pro expands from MetroPCS to T-Mobile [Update: Confirmed price tag at $179]

Earlier this year ZTE launched the ZMax Pro, a $99 Android smartphone that hit all the right notes. With a 6-inch display, decent specifications, and a fingerprint sensor, it was pretty incredible that ZTE was able to sell the phone for such a low cost.

I praised the ZMax Pro in my review for being the best bang-for-your-buck smartphone I’d ever seen — and rightly so. With a 6-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 617 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, Android Marshmallow, and a fingerprint sensor, the ZMax Pro is impressive. That’s not even to mention USB C, the surprisingly decent 13MP camera, and the massive 3,400 mAh battery.

However, it did have one flaw which I considered fatal — it was exclusive to MetroPCS. While MetroPCS is a fine carrier in its own right, very few use it, so restricting a device this good to that network meant not many people would be able to pick it up. Thankfully, that changes today.

Starting today T-Mobile is offering the ZTE ZMax Pro in stores and online for the slightly higher price of $129, at least that’s what ZTE tells us. T-Mobile currently has the full retail price listed at $179 ($7.50/month), so clearly there’s some miscommunication here. Either way, it’s fantastic to see this device hit another carrier and at either price it’s a pretty solid deal.

Update: T-Mobile has confirmed that the ZMax Pro will be sold for $179 on its network.
