Qualcomm is currently hosting the 4G/5G summit in Hong Kong and has announced three new Snapdragon processors: the 653, 626, and 427. These three new chips come with Qualcomm’s brand new X9 LTE modem, which opens up the ability for devices to run on two additional radio bands (Category 7 capable of 300Mbps download speeds and Category 13 capable of 150Mbps upload), Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, and adds support for dual cameras in devices.
The two brand new Snapdragon 653 and 626 will be a part of the 600 series mid-tier level SoC. The 653 is the successor to the 652 and Qualcomm claims that it is 10 percent faster as it has received architectural improvements and has been clocked at 1.95GHz. Additionally, with this processor, phones will be able to run with up to 8 GB of RAM installed and has Enhanced Voice Services which is the company’s way of saying that devices will have improved call quality when using VoLTE.
The Snapdragon 626 has been clocked at 2.2GHz and is built on top of the 625 CPU architecture. It also includes Qualcomm’s TruSignal antenna boost technology. This is supposed to help signal reception and quality in congested areas.
Lastly, the Snapdragon 427, also featuring the brand new X9 LTE modem, will replace the 425. This CPU will be the first in the 400 series to feature the TruSignal technology. It will be clocked at 1.4GHz.
It’s too early to know what devices might be running these new Qualcomm Snapdragon processors but the 653 and 626 are expected to be in handsets starting later this year with the 427 arriving sometime in early 2017.
