Lenovo will show off first Project Tango-powered consumer smartphone at Tech World 2016 on June 9th

Lenovo announced today that it will be bringing its second annual Tech World to San Francisco on June 9th. As well as bringing together some industry leaders to discuss the latest developments in virtual reality, smart connected devices and cloud technology, Lenovo will launch some new products. One of them will be the first consumer Project Tango-equipped Android smartphone.

Tech World 2016 will also host major product announcements; we’ll launch the world’s first consumer Project Tango-enabled smartphone in partnership with Google. Project Tango brings augmented reality to your smartphone, including gaming, navigation, and other utilities. This device gives you a totally new way to experience the world – enabling you to do things never imagined, from indoor mapping your way around a museum to creating a 3D gaming environment to visualizing how a new refrigerator fits into your kitchen.

Project Tango, of course, has been in development for some time. The first smartphone hardware available for devs to reserve was only launched for $399 back in January this year. Just a month later, Lenovo announced at MWC in Barcelona that its first Project Tango-enabled device would be launched later this summer. A promise it’s clearly making good on.

This is almost certainly the product the Chinese manufacturer is teasing ahead of Tech World 2016 in today’s press release, and is supposedly launching for less than $500. Specifications are unknown, but it is going to sport a screen less than 6.5-inches, and will undoubtedly feature an innovative camera and sensor setup so that it can map 3D space in real-time.

Lenovo will also use the show to announce new Motorola products, perhaps those new Moto X and Moto G phones we’ve been reading so much about over the past few weeks. They’ll also highlight some cool technology concepts from their labs, showcasing some experimental ideas they’ve been working on that aren’t quite ready for public consumption.

The keynote will be live-streamed on YouTube.com/lenovo from 10:30am Pacific (1:30pm Eastern) on June 9th.
