BLU Life One X is official, 5.2-inch full HD $99 Moto G competitor with octa-core MediaTek chip

As low-end smartphones go, few are as popular on Amazon as BLU’s unlocked budget-friendly Android phones. If it already had a reputation for offering great bang for your buck, it will only get stronger with the newest device in its lineup. The BLU Life One X has just been launched, it costs under $100 (for a limited time) and comes with a full HD 1080p display…

The new device was announced in a press release, which was keen to point out that this new smartphone outperforms the Moto G in virtually every measurable benchmark. BLU tested both phones using Antutu, GeekBench 3, Vellamo Chrome Browser, Basemark OS II and Gfx Open GL 3.1 High Level, and in each test, the BLU Life One X came out on top. That’s not bad for a phone which, right now, costs $80 less than the newest Moto G.

“The Life One X blows the competition out of the water in all measurable features including CPU performance, Graphics, Memory, System, Battery and Web Performance.” said Samuel Ohev-Zion CEO of BLU Products “In addition, we are also coming in at a lower price point with better hardware.”

As always, it’s worth noting that benchmark results don’t always mean you’ll see the same difference in daily real-usage performance. They’re a good indicator of potential, but can often be hampered by software.

Regardless, the specification list and hardware design look impressive from our first read through. The BLU Life One X has an aircraft-grade aluminum frame, and has been sand-blasted to achieve a soft-touch matte finish. What’s more, the back cover — like the Galaxy Note 4 — is a plastic finished with a leather-like texture and covered in a smooth paint for a great in-hand feel.

Key specifications include the following:

  • 5.2-inch 1080p display
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • 64-bit MediaTek 1.3GHz octa-core processor
  • 4G LTE
  • 13MP rear camera with phase-detection autofocus with 5P Blue Lens filter
  • 5MP front camera with front LED flash
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop (planned upgrade to Marshmallow before the end of Q1 2016)
  • Dual-SIM support
  • 2,900mAh battery
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB storage (expandable)

If you want to order one at the launch period price-point, you have until December 12th at 12:00am EST to do so. From the weekend, the phone goes back up to its full $149 price which, incidentally, is still cheaper than the Moto G. It’s available exclusively from Amazon now. I could be wrong, but I can’t think of any current phone which offers a full HD screen for $99 and comes with an octa-core processor and a big battery. On paper, it looks an incredible deal.
