Huawei’s Honor handsets getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in February 2016

Huawei’s Honor brand is part of the company’s strategy to release affordable products with great specs in a brand that’s a little more global-friendly. In other words, English speakers won’t struggle to pronounce ‘Honor’ like they will ‘Huawei’. Its latest phone, the Honor 7 impressed me a lot for its price point, and it will be one of several phones to be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow next year…

Honor’s official Indian Twitter handle confirmed yesterday that the software will begin rolling out for its customers in February 2016. From the image below we can safely assume that Android 6.0 will be available for the Honor 4C, 6 Plus, 7, 6 and 4X.

Since Android 6.0 was officially launched, several companies have confirmed their intentions to roll out Marshmallow to specific handsets over the coming months. Motorola, Sony, HTC and Samsung (among others) have all listed phones which will see the new and improved Android OS. Among those, it’s perhaps HTC’s launch of the One A9 that’s most impressive. The latest premium mid-ranger from HTC comes with Android Marshmallow out-of-box and won’t need updating.

With Honor, it’ll be interesting to see if Huawei will revise its EMUI software running on top of Android with the Marshmallow. While some of its features can be useful, others are a little too iOS-like and restrictive. Still, with Android 6.0’s ‘doze’ mode, combined with Huawei’s excellent battery optimization tools, we could see even more incredible battery life from the Honor phones.
