OnePlus ‘X’ to be unveiled on October 29, in London

Early this morning, OnePlus virtually confirmed through its Twitter account that we’re going to see a new phone announced on October 29 at an event in London. With a picture of a big lit-up ‘X’ and the words “See you October 29, London”, the company doesn’t leave much room for doubt…

The OnePlus X is one of this year’s worst-kept secrets. Or at least, it would be, if it was a secret. Carl Pei, the manufacturer’s co-founder, announced that the company was working on its third phone in an interview earlier this year and stated that it would be released by the end of the year. Although we shouldn’t expect another flagship killer, there’s been enough information trickling through to suggest the OnePlus X (or OnePlus Mini) will be disruptive at its price point.

The phone showed at the FCC a few days ago. From the images we’ve seen, it looks like a relatively standard rectangle black smartphone with a metal frame. Specs could feature a full HD 5-inch display, 2,450mAh battery, 2GB RAM and a MediaTek processor. It’s also rumored to ship with Android 6.0 with OxygenOS 3.0.

We have two weeks to find out if any of the recent speculation is accurate, and if it will be enough to disrupt the low-end of the market. With devices like the Moto G, WileyFox Swift and a number of Android One phones out, it’s going to be tough. Still, if the 1080p-equipped smartphone is priced below $200, that could cause something of a stir.
