Big and small: Upcoming Moto 360L and 360S surface in leaked photos

Recently we revealed that Motorola’s new smartwatch passed through the Brazilian equivalent of the FCC. In it, the filings indicated that Motorola is clearly working on two sizes for its next generation Moto 360 smartwatch. Moto 360L and Moto 360S will seemingly keep the same ‘flat tire’ on the bottom of the screen, and similar round metal cases but there are clear differences. Today, both big and small versions of the Moto 360 have popped up in individually leaked photos.

HelloMotoHK shared the photographs on its Facebook and Google Plus pages. In one photograph the Moto 360S is shown on-wrist next to the current generation Moto 360. There’s a clear size difference, it’s nice and compact. What’s more, the metal casing appears to be much shinier and more solid. As we’ve seen in previous leaks, there’s also a pair of more traditional lugs so users can fit regular watch straps to their smartwatch without having to mess around with scissors or knives. What’s more, the side-button is at the 2 o’clock position as we’ve seen previously, not the 3 o’clock position adopted by the current 360.

While the Moto 360S image gives us a clear indication of size, it’s hard to tell exactly how big the large version will be. In the image, the smartwatch looks pretty big, but that’s by just the model wearing it having a small wrist. If I had to guess, I’d speculate that the 360L will be the same size as the current 360. It’s hard to tell exactly from photographs, but it appears as though Motorola is going with a much more solid construction on the 2nd generation Moto 360. What is interesting is that — of all the leaks we’ve seen so far — they’ve all been shown sporting a leather strap. While that doesn’t mean the company won’t launch a metal link bracelet like last time out, it’s curious that we haven’t seen it yet.

Motorola and a number of other big manufacturers are expected to launch their next Android Wear devices at IFA next month, in Berlin. Whether it has what it takes to take on LG, Huawei and Samsung is yet to be seen. But the smart watch market is just getting heated up.
