Asus announces Zenfone 2, world’s first smartphone w/ 4GB of RAM

After a number of teases leading up to CES, Asus today officially unveiled Zenfone 2, the world’s first smartphone with 4GB of RAM (as pictured in the slide above from the company’s CES press event earlier today). Head below for full details on specs and some hands-on shots of the new device.

As hinted at by previous leaks, the device also includes some unique camera features that Asus says offers low light modes for front and rear cameras with “pixel merging technology or 400%-better light sensitivity.”

The company also spent time talking up the the device’s 5.5-inch display and screen-to-body ratio, which it pointed out is 72% vs 68.3% on the iPhone 6 Plus.

Other specs for the device include a 64-bit Super Quad Core Intel Atom Processor (Z3580), a 2.3GHz w/ 2GB/4GB RAM, a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display, 1.3MP and 5MP “PixelMaster” cameras, LTE, and Android 5.0 Lollipop.

In addition, the company also took the wraps off its new Zenfone Zoom that it hinted at in previous teasers. That device is a smartphone/camera hybrid that Asus said is the world’s thinnest 3X Optical Zoom smartphone. More details here.
