Samsung Galaxy Note 4 unboxing and first impressions (Video)

When Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 4 back at IFA 2014, we were very excited about the new design and improved specifications over the Note 3. As you would expect, Samsung bumped up the internal specs to keep things current with today’s market, but they also made massive improvements to the display and build quality…

We’ve picked up the international model (N910U) for our initial unboxing and first look. The difference with this model is that it packs an Exynos octa-core setup with a 1.3GHz and 1.9GHz quad-core chip configuration.

As for specifications (most models), the Note 4 features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 (515 ppi), a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7GHz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (plus MicroSD expansion), and a 3,220 mAh battery.

The build quality of the Galaxy Note 4 is excellent. Samsung has been stepping up its design game. The Galaxy Note 4 features a metal frame which makes the device feel much more durable and premium than the plastic-framed Galaxy Note 3. As I mentioned in our Galaxy Alpha review, this type of build quality provides almost everything I’ve been waiting for on Samsung smartphones.

As for the 5.7-inch Quad HD display, well it’s beautiful. Thanks to the Super AMOLED technology, the deep blacks and popping colors really make this display stand out among many other smartphones on the market. It’s going to be very difficult to see a huge difference in the display resolution compared to the Note 3, but if you have them side-by-side it’s very obvious.

The volume rocker and lock button are in a familiar area when compared to the Note 3, but other areas have also received some exciting enhancements. On the front side, you’ll find a 3.7-megapixel camera (1080p video) and a home button with a built-in fingerprint scanner. The back side is home to a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization that’s capable of shooting up to UHD quality video and a heart rate sensor.

The Galaxy Note 4 also ships with an Adaptive Fast Charging block. Using this special wall adapter, you can take the Note 4 from zero to 50 percent battery life in about 30 minutes. Simply plug in the wall adapter and connect the included micro USB charging cable for quick recharge time whenever you need it.

New features have been added for the S Pen (Smart Select, Photo Note, etc) and TouchWiz has been slightly redesigned to reflect a modern look. Even with the Exynos model that we have, the software seems very snappy and responsive. We’ll go in-depth with its software during our full review.

Overall, the Galaxy Note 4 seems like a win for Samsung and consumers. It has a beautifully large pixel-dense display, superb build with its metal frame, and the right amount of software enhancement. Though we’ll be putting all of this to the test for our full review. If you’d like to pickup a Galaxy Note 4, you can preorder it from most carriers or check out our friends at 28Mobile to purchase the factory unlocked version shown off in the above video. What do you think about the Galaxy Note 4?
