Barnes & Noble teases new Samsung Nook e-reader a few days before official launch

We’ve known since June that Barnes & Noble’s next Nook ebook reader would be a co-branded Galaxy Tab 4, set to be launched on Wednesday. Digital Reader notes that the company has now emailed out a 30-second teaser video, showing reactions to the device – including one from Grumpy Cat … 

The video doesn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know, but there will probably be few surprises in store anyway. The e-reader is likely to be the same hardware as the Tab 4, but with a different overlay to put books front and centre.

Eagle-eyed readers will note that the video is a play off of Amazon’s teaser for the Fire Phone (below)

Barnes & Noble is working hard to keep itself relevant at a time when physical book stores are in decline. The company has closed 63 stores in the past five years, while its existing Nook readers have also been struggling, business declining 22 percent year-on-year. The company recently partnered with Google to offer a same-day delivery service for its paper books.

The company had previously decided to quit the tablet business before changing its mind; perhaps the Samsung partnership will be the charm …
