Google Maps adds Street View support for Brazilian stadiums, tourist attractions ahead of World Cup

The 2014 World Cup is set to kick off next week in Brazil, and Google seems to be excited about the event. Earlier this week the company updated the Chromecast with support for WatchESPN streaming, meaning that all 64 World Cup games will be able to be streamed to the device. Now, in a post on the Lat Long blog, Google has announced some new features for Maps exclusively for the World Cup.

Starting today, you can explore all 12 of the World Cup stadiums via Google Street View. You can also take a tour down Brazil’s famous painted stress with the service. In addition to the stadiums, Google has also added images from “hundreds” of attractions across Brazil to Maps, including the Iguacu National Park and St. Michael of the Missions.

Finally, Google is also touting the mobile features of Maps on mobile for those lucky enough to attend the World Cup in person. Google Maps transit is available in all twelve host cities and indoor maps are available in more than 100 Brazilian venues, including World Cup stadiums. Google also says that turn-by-turn navigation is available throughout Brazil, making moving throughout the country even easier.

  • Transit: With Google Maps transit available in all 12 host cities, Brazilians and visitors alike can rest assured they can make it to the stadium and other destinations routing the best path by bus or train.
  • Indoor Maps: Make your way through more than 100 venues across Brazil, including airports, shopping malls and, yes, World Cup stadiums with Indoor Maps.
  • Turn-by-turn navigation: Zip through Brazil from Point A to Point B with Google Maps for mobile, giving you the most accurate traffic info, including real-time incident reports from Waze, and voice-guided directions.

If you’re headed to the World Cup, or even watching from afar, be sure to checkout all that Google Maps has to offer for soccer fans.
