Korean website ETNews (translated) published a story Dec. 23 claiming Samsung will use a quad-core processor for the Galaxy S III, and the company is working to include 3D technologies – not just 3D displays, but also 3D photo/video recording, and integration with 3D TVs.
This latest 3D rumor comes within a month of other reports that claimed Samsung was readying an improved version of the Exynos dual-core chip to enable next year’s devices with 3D stereoscopic displays and ultrahigh resolutions.
The quad-core processor aspect of the latest rumor seems likely, because HTC is Samsung’s primary Android competitor and it is allegedly preparing quad-core smartphones for 2012.
As for specifications, there is no confirmed information from Samsung. Recent rumors claim the Galaxy S III will be designed for the high-end bracket of Android devices due to its Super AMOLED Plus HD display, 2GB of RAM, LTE connectivity, 12-megapixel camera, Android’s latest Ice Cream Sandwich firmware with TouchWiz, and, of course, the quad-core processor. Other notable rumors claim the smartphone will sport NFC capability and a w750 BSI CMOS camera sensor.
ETNews confirmed the much anticipated device will debut at Mobile World Congress. The event is scheduled for Feb. 27 through March 1, 2012 in Barcelona, Spain.
